“The Shanghai Arcades” begins as a short ethnographic film, supported by a 2021 Summer Research Fellowship in “Changing Infrastructures” from USC Annenberg’s Media as Socio-technical Systems (MASTS) Research Collective. The film ruminates on Shanghai’s vast subterranean network, architectural wonders, and technical contingencies.
